2010 Vineyard Select Pinot Noir

WINEMAKING

One parcel of this fruit went as whole berries in to a small open fermenter. After 36 hours the fruit was inoculated at a low rate to promote a slow start to the fermentation process. Hand plunged daily, with the occasional pump over, contributed to the depth of fruit and colour desired for delivering part of our wine style.

The second parcel went in to a static fermentation tank as 50% whole berry and 50% crushed fruit.

Both parcels were pressed individually and were held as separate batches in new and seasoned French oak. Post secondary ferment these wines were matured on light lees for approximately 11 months. A barrel selection between the two batches was chosen to produce the final wine. A light filtration was performed prior to bottling on 3rd March 2011.

VINEYARD NOTES

Vineyard

The two blocks harvested for this elegant wine are both off 30 year old vines from Willowlake Vineyard in Gladysdale.  With it's high altitude, the Upper Yarra region, where Gladysdale is located, offers cooler temperatures and subsequently more delicate and elegant fruit than that found on the Valley floor.
